Alternative Fast Food Choices

There are other ways and choices where you can eat healthier and still enjoy eating. Instead of eating a double patty hamburger with cheese, mayo and bacon, have a single-patty hamburger without mayonnaise and cheese. Or, what about an egg on a muffin instead of a breakfast burrito with steak? Or, try a yogurt parfait instead of a milkshake. When it comes to subs and sandwiches, most of which many of us enjoy, think about a six-inch sub instead of a foot long sub or adding low-fat dressing or mustard instead of mayo to top it off.

And, what about requesting omelets and scrambled eggs made from egg substitutes or egg whites? I’ve tasted both of these and I cannot tell the difference. They taste great and come without the extra cholesterol and calories. Choosing lean ham or Canadian bacon instead of bacon and sausage are two other great alternatives and they taste great. Fruit juices or decaf instead of coffee are two other good alternatives. When it comes to lunch and dinner, choose steamed, broiled, poached, grilled or roasted dishes. They won’t have the grease and will taste just as good. Stay away also from gravy and sauces. And, when you eat meat, trim off the fat and take the skin off of the poultry.

Low calorie menus are now available at many food chains and when you are eating meals that have sauces, butter and such on top, ask for them to be served, separately.

It is good to know that many fast food chains are changing their menus in response to the many customer complaints they’ve been receiving for years on their food, for example—too much grease, not the right kind/of grease—too much trans fats, too much salt, too big proportions, and no fruits or vegetable offerings.

In addition there are many interesting and fun facts when it comes to fast food.
